Wind or Storm Damaged Fence in Las Vegas: What to Do and Who Pays

What to do when wind, a summer thunderstorm, flood water or a fallen tree damages your fence in Las Vegas: fast repair, insurance and temporary fixes.

If the wind blew down your fence or a storm took out a section, take photos before you touch it. Then call your insurance company and a fence contractor. Las Vegas gets its damage two ways: long, hard wind events, mostly in spring, and short summer thunderstorms that bring gusts and fast water down streets and washes.

Half my fence blew down. Who can fix it fast and what will it cost?

Send us a photo and a rough length by text, and we will tell you what kind of repair it looks like. When posts went down with the panels, it is a major repair, $900 to $2,500 in the national 2026 figures. A big wind day breaks fences all over the valley at once, so repair calendars fill within hours. Call early.

My dogs are in the yard and the fence is open to the road. What can be done right away?

We can close the hole temporarily. Standing posts get braced and a panel is tied across the opening, and the full repair is booked after. Tell us right away if dogs are in the yard or if a swimming pool is now open to the street. We move those calls up.

Is there an extra charge for emergency or weekend fence repair?

It depends on the company, so ask before the truck rolls. Some bill extra for nights and weekends. Others do not offer them. The cheaper approach is usually a quick temporary closure now and the proper repair on a normal working day.

Does homeowners insurance cover a fence knocked down by a storm or a tree?

Sometimes. A fence is often listed under other structures, yet payment turns on the cause of damage, your deductible and the policy language. If the repair costs less than the deductible, a claim gains you nothing. Flood water is commonly treated differently from wind. Ask your agent. We supply the written estimate.

My neighbor's tree fell on my fence. Whose insurance pays?

In most cases your own policy covers your own fence, wherever the tree grew. The answer may differ if the neighbor knew the tree was dead or leaning and left it. Ask your insurer how it applies. If the tree landed on a wall you both share, read our Nevada shared fence page.

The insurer offered much less than the repair quote because the fence is old. Now what?

Ask the adjuster to show the calculation in writing. Many policies pay the depreciated value of an old fence, not the cost of a new one. Answer with an itemized estimate. If the two numbers still do not meet, you can limit the work to the storm damage.

The storm knocked the fence down and my neighbor says it is mine. Who pays?

Start by finding out whose lot it stood on. Ownership, any written agreement and the HOA documents decide who pays. Shared block walls on the lot line are very common here, and a shared wall is usually a shared problem. If nobody knows where the line is, a Nevada licensed land surveyor has to mark it. Fence companies do not decide boundaries. See our shared fence page for more.
