Restaurants, shopping centers, apartment communities and offices across the valley keep their trash bins inside enclosures, usually three block walls with steel gates on the front. The gates take a beating from trucks, wind and daily use, and they are what we build and fix most.
Enclosure gates are wide and heavy, so they hang on steel posts in their own footings, not on the block. We build welded steel frames with metal panel, slat or composite infill, heavy hinges, cane bolts with sleeves set in the paving for open and closed positions, and a latch the staff can work with one hand. Solid faces catch wind, so bracing and hold-opens matter. We can also build full steel or chain link enclosures with slats where masonry is not required.
Local zoning generally requires commercial trash areas to be screened, and the city and the county each have their own standards for wall material, gate type and location. The waste hauler also has clearance needs for its trucks. For a new enclosure we follow the approved site plan. For repairs we match what is there and correct what made it fail.
Dumpster enclosures in Las Vegas: common questions
Why do enclosure gates keep sagging?
They are usually hung on the block wall or on undersized posts. Steel posts in deep footings and a braced frame solve it.
Can you replace just the gates on a block enclosure?
Yes. That is the most common job. We set new posts inside the opening if the old mounting has failed.
Does my enclosure have to be block?
It depends on the zoning for the property. Ask the city or county planning office. We build to what the approval says.
