Wood is a specialty item in Las Vegas, chosen for looks more than for cost. With block wall already on the boundary, owners use cedar where they want something warmer: a horizontal slat screen by a spa, a courtyard gate, a short privacy run where a neighbor's second story looks in, or a ranch rail on a rural lot in the northwest.
The Mojave ages wood by drying it. Rot is rare away from sprinklers, but boards left bare go gray, cup and split around their fasteners within a few summers. We build with cedar or pressure-treated lumber, fasten with exterior screws and usually mount everything on galvanized steel posts, so the buried part is steel in concrete. We keep the bottom edge clear of soil and gravel and point irrigation away from it.
A wood fence here is a commitment to finish. An oil-based sealer or stain with UV blockers, renewed when water stops beading, is the difference between a fence that lasts and one that does not. We say so before you order. We also check your HOA guidelines, since many valley communities restrict wood where it shows, and the city or county rule for the height you want.

Does wood hold up in Las Vegas sun?
It does if it is sealed on a schedule, kept away from sprinklers and hung on steel posts. Unfinished wood in full sun cracks and warps fast.
Can you build a cedar gate in my block wall opening?
Yes. We set steel posts in the opening and build the gate on a welded steel frame, so the cedar is only the face and cannot sag the gate.
Will my HOA allow a wood fence?
Some do and many limit it to areas out of street view. Send us the design guidelines and we will tell you what fits them.
